Applications and Essays Service.
Every year we work with a number of rising seniors over the summer to help them complete their college applications and their required essays. We call this our Applications and Essays service. We typically begin this work as soon as possible after school is out for the junior year, assuming the student has a pretty good idea of their colleges where they want to apply. The objective is to get as much of this work done as possible before the beginning of the senior year, so that as the school year begins the student can focus on their classes and on getting applications submitted by their deadlines. Most students are submitting to many of their colleges by the Early Action deadlines, which are typically between October 15 and sometime in November.
Perry and his associate, Carolyn, work as a team to provide the service. Carolyn works with the student on their Common Application or other applications. She has been doing this for over 25 years, she’s very efficient and organized with it, and the students enjoy working with her. Along with all of the student’s data, she helps them organize and describe their activities and honors to be sure they make a good impression and everything is in the proper format and location.
Perry helps the student with their essays. Of course, the student will do the writing, but Perry will help them choose a topic for each essay and offer suggestions as to what’s helpful to include or not include. He’ll also do careful proofreading for grammar and punctuation. Applications require a main essay and then colleges can ask for whatever supplemental, typically shorter essays or questions they may desire; the average has been between two and three supplemental essays per college. Some common questions like, “Tell us about one of your extracurricular activities,” can be used with more than one college. Depending on the college list, the essays can be a substantial amount of work, which is the reason we suggest everyone get started early in the summer. The prompts for the Common Application main essay have already been announced. Colleges may not make their supplemental essay list official until August 1, but they don’t typically change that much, and Perry's only encountered one instance where an essay was written and then not able to be used due to a change in the college’s requirements.
The applications and essays work is billed at $120 per hour. We ask for an initial 4-hour payment, and then additional individual hours are scheduled as needed. The 4-hour package can be ordered using https://app.acuityscheduling.com/catalog.php?owner=13561116&action=addCart&clear=1&id=1358941.
For any questions, feel free to give Perry a call at 910-528-5595. He's also happy to do a complementary consultation via Zoom or at the office so that the student can participate in the discussion about how all this works and make sure they are comfortable. You can schedule that meeting with one of these links.
