GRE TEST PREP IN RALEIGH, & Southern Pines, NC
Students planning to apply for a graduate school program are typically required to take one of these standardized tests: the GRE, GMAT, LSAT, or MCAT. In the past, most business schools required the GMAT, most law schools required the LSAT, and medical schools required the MCAT. More recently there have been some changes in the graduate schools' requirements, notably that about 1300 business programs now accept the GRE as well as the GMAT, and some law schools accept the GRE as well as the LSAT. So, the likelihood is even higher that a person applying for graduate school will be able to take the GRE to satisfy their requirement. Of course, the student will need to check with schools they are interested in to see which tests are permitted.

Perry offers GRE test prep for Raleigh and Southern Pines students that covers both verbal and quantitative subject matter. This test will be chosen by the vast majority of students applying for programs in the liberal arts and sciences, as well as many business students.

For years, the GRE has been a computer-based test that includes verbal and quantitative questions. Beginning in September 2023, a new, shortened GRE was introduced. The content of the test was not changed a great deal, so students can continue to prepare using previous GRE materials, but the length of the test was reduced from 3 hours 45 minutes to approximately two hours. On both the verbal and quantitative sections, the number of questions went from 40 to 27. The pace of work remains the same at 1.63 minutes per question.
Like the new SAT, the GRE is adaptive by section. The first verbal and the first quantitative section are of moderate difficulty; depending on how well the student does they will get either an easier or a more difficult second section. By using this adaptive structure, the test maker is able to accomplish the same assessment with fewer overall questions. So, the student who wants to score well on the test will want to get a hard second section — hard questions will count more towards the final score than easy questions. |

GRE TEST PREP
Perry's GRE tutoring service in the Raleigh and Southern Pines area uses real GRE practice tests, both printed and computer-based, from the test maker ETS. In this way students become very familiar with the content of the GRE and the way questions are presented.
Students can typically contact the graduate program they are interested in and find out what GRE score the program will consider acceptable. Sometimes this information is available on the school's website; otherwise, a phone call to the department will provide the information. Then, taking one of the official GRE practice tests in Raleigh will tell where the student is scoring and how much they need to improve on verbal and quantitative areas. |
For prospective clients, Perry offers a complimentary consultation either at his office or via zoom.
