Denison University is a selective liberal arts college with 2250 students in Granville Ohio. Its beautiful campus and strong academics make it popular with students from many states. 70% of students come from outside of Ohio and 7% are international. Denison has strong retention rates, freshmen to sophomore, as well as strong graduation rates. Denison has a large endowment, which enables it to give an average $20,000 dollars in merit scholarships, and provides financial stability to the college. The college boasts that its graduates accumulate less debt by graduation then those from Ohio State.
Students are required to live on campus all four years, so student life is cohesive. In years past, Denison students may have felt isolated in Granville, Ohio. However with improved highways, Columbus, the 14th largest metro area in the US, is now about a half hour drive. Denison has been test optional for a few years and they are happy about continuing that policy. Applicants with a 3.0 GPA do not have to submit test scores. The college has found that non-submitters have achieved the same average college GPA as those who submitted scores. Also, merit scholarship awards are available to non-submitters. With strong programs in the sciences, theater, creative writing, international studies, and computer science, Denison has programs to attract a wide variety of students.
